Real Avid continues to roll out innovative solutions for firearms enthusiasts and DIYers. The company’s new Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation puts cleaning and tinkering operations “on the go.”

Not only am I not the most organized person in the world (a character flaw I’m working diligently to change), some who know me well might put me forward as a candidate for the most disorganized person in the world.
My wife would likely be the first to toss that chip in the cup.
I have gotten better at the organizing thing — especially with important stuff like gun tools and reloading equipment. And that incremental victory has brought home the point for me that tasks are made simpler, performed more efficiently, and deliver better results when you have the right tools for the job and can keep those tools centrally located. Of course, having a generous working environment with lots of clean bench acreage also helps greatly.
The latter is a problem for many gun enthusiasts. Whether your workspace is limited to a kitchen table, a dropped tailgate at hunting camp, or the shooting bench, having everything you need on hand plus a solid support for your firearm is essential. That was the impetus for Real Avid’s newest product — the Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation.
As the name implies, the Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation is a comprehensive cleaning kit that also morphs into a work station that you can set up just about anywhere you can find a stable, flat surface. Not only does the kit include all the key ingredients for multi-caliber rifle and pistol cleaning, but the case is also modular in design and function, providing a tool organizer, temporary parts bin, and a support stand for cleaning and assorted gun work. Four cam-over latches secure the three-piece system together while an integrated carry handle makes transport a cinch.
The back of the case features collapsible yokes to support long guns. To engage, simply lift the yokes and snap them into position in the case. The soft Gun Gripper Yoke inserts accommodate a full range of stock profiles and keep the guns firmly in place. On either side of the yokes are storage trays so you can store small parts, tools, and other essentials without fear of losing them.
Included with the kit is Real Avid’s Smart-Assist work light. This is a rechargeable light attached to a long, multi-positional neck that docks into one of the four corners of the workstation. This is a big help when your work area has insufficient lighting or when you need to put a light deep into a receiver but don’t have that third hand close by.
If you are not familiar with Real Avid’s Smart-Assist tools, these include the aforementioned work light, plus a magnifying glass and a cell phone holder. The magnifying glass and cell phone holder are not part of the Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation, but can be purchased separately as a group via the Smart-Assist Quick-Connect System. They all attach to the docking ports built into the Workstation.
While the Workstation provides the necessary support for working on long guns — say, to mount a scope or install a trigger — the core competency of the system is firearms cleaning. And it comes well-stocked for the task.
The kit calls upon Real Avid’s Bore-Max Speed Clean system, which is comprised of long-shank jags and special patches designed to work with the close tolerances of the Bore-Max jags. The idea behind this system is the long jag-and-patch combination grabs more fouling in the bore on a single pass than does a conventional patch and jag. This means shorter cleaning time and less material use.
The jags and patches cover the most common sizes ranging from .22 to .45 caliber pistol, .22 to .30 caliber rifle, plus 20- and 12-guage shotgun. All jags, brushes, and mops stow in a common “rack” that folds flat inside the Workstation’s tool compartment.
Several handy tools are included in the Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation. Supporting bore cleaning operations is the Bore-Max 3-piece Speed Rod that features a pistol grip-style handle and ball-bearing rotation, as well as the universal Smart-Fit bore guide to protect the barrel bore and help keep solvent out of the receiver area.
Accompanying the kit are several style picks and an assortment of cleaning brushes that are perfect for getting rid of stubborn carbon buildup.
The Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit and Mobile Workstation has an MSRP of $199.99. As cleaning kits go, it is an investment. As for the efficient, hassle-free performance the kit offers when you need to need to work wherever you can, this is an investment that is worth every penny.
