The TenPoint TX Ultra 26.5 proves that hunters and shooters no longer must choose between compact handling and premium crossbow performance
by Brad Fenson
Crossbows continue to get faster, narrower, and more accurate, but shrinking a platform often comes with compromises. The TenPoint TX Ultra 26.5 was built to challenge that idea. Designed around maximum maneuverability while maintaining premium-level performance, this compact hunting machine quickly became a hands-on favorite at the range and in spring bear camp.
After spending time behind the TX Ultra 26.5 on the range and in the field, it became clear that TenPoint successfully blended speed, accuracy, and handling into one remarkably compact package. Everyone who shot the bow wanted more time behind it, and that alone says a lot about how refined the platform feels; however, the performance is what ultimately created the shooting addiction for seasoned archers and firearm hunters who went from watching to trying.
The TX Ultra 26.5 feels incredibly small the moment you pick it up. Measuring only 26.5 inches long and just 5.75 inches wide when cocked, it is one of the most compact high-performance hunting crossbows available. Whether hunting from a tight ground blind, navigating thick timber, or settling into an elevated treestand, the smaller profile becomes an immediate advantage.
Despite the compact dimensions, the TX Ultra 26.5 never feels cramped or difficult to control. The balance is excellent, and the bow settles naturally into position when preparing for a shot. At 7.7 pounds, it remains lightweight while maintaining the solid feel expected from a premium hunting platform.
Recorded Performance
The performance numbers quickly backed up what we were feeling. Chronograph testing with a Garmin Xero averaged 392.4 fps with a remarkable speed variance of only 0.2 fps across five shots. Consistency at that level is impressive and demonstrates the engineering behind the platform. It also goes a long way toward defining and explaining accuracy, shot by shot.
Noise testing averaged 102.5 decibels — an excellent result considering the compact dimensions and speed generated by the TX Ultra 26.5. Vibration remained well-controlled throughout testing, contributing to a smooth, confidence-inspiring shooting experience, and it helped explain the quiet nature of the bow and its components.
I test and shoot a lot of new crossbows, and this was one of the quietest in the lineup this year. For comparison, another premium brand of crossbow on the market recorded 116.6 decibels. The difference between 102.5 decibels and 116.6 decibels is much larger than it appears because decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale. A sound at 116.6 decibels produces approximately 25 times more sound energy than a sound at 102.5 decibels.
Accuracy was simply outstanding. Three-shot groups consistently measured under ½ inch, and we often found ourselves moving aiming points to avoid damaging arrows. The TX Ultra 26.5 proved to be one of the most consistently accurate crossbows we tested. What was even more surprising was that the groups were maintained at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards. I’ve never considered an ethical hunting shot at over 50 yards, so that is what I prefer to test. The crossbow can shoot incredible groups well beyond 50 yards, and for shooters, it will generate excitement and a new appreciation for controlled energy to 100 yards and beyond.
A New Level of Precision
One of the highlights of our testing involved pairing the TX Ultra 26.5 with TenPoint’s Vision HD Digital Rangefinding Scope with recording capability. It is important to mention the new optic, as it was felt to be a way to showcase the crossbow’s true potential. The optic could be a tool to test the accuracy of any horizontal bow and is a significant advancement on its own.
The digital optic highlighted exactly what this crossbow can deliver. Shooting dimes at 40 and 50 yards became routine. The rangefinding technology removed guesswork while the scope’s precision allowed us to fully appreciate the incredible consistency engineered into the platform.
The Vision HD Digital Rangefinding Scope took aiming and accuracy to an entirely new level. More importantly, it demonstrated just how repeatable the TX Ultra 26.5 really is. The combination created one of the most accurate hunting setups we have tested.
The foil wrapper from a piece of gum was rolled into a tight ball with a smaller diameter than an arrow. The foil was pushed into the target face at 50 yards. An arrow shot the tiny ball into the target, showing how well the crossbow and optic worked together.
A Deep Dive into Accuracy
Much of the TX Ultra 26.5’s performance stems from TenPoint’s Twin-Riser Technology. The dual-riser design increases overall stiffness while reducing flex and vibration throughout the platform. Less movement during the shot cycle translates directly into more consistent arrow flight and tighter groups downrange.
The benefit becomes increasingly noticeable as distances stretch farther. The platform remains stable and repeatable, helping shooters maintain confidence well beyond typical hunting ranges.
TenPoint further strengthened the system with an oversized axle and wider limb design. The upgraded components reduce twisting and maintain alignment throughout the shot cycle. The result is a crossbow that feels exceptionally solid and predictable every time the trigger breaks.
Speaking of triggers, the TriggerTech trigger remains one of the defining features of the TX Ultra lineup. The crisp, zero-creep break provides excellent control, allowing shooters to maximize the bow’s inherent accuracy. Precision becomes increasingly important as speed and distance increase, and the TriggerTech system delivers exactly what serious hunters want.
The TX Ultra 26.5 also benefits from TenPoint’s innovative ZERO-Trac barrel system. By eliminating the traditional rail, the system reduces friction, minimizes wear points, improves consistency, and helps maximize efficiency. The floating arrow design contributes to the smooth shooting characteristics and exceptional accuracy we experienced throughout testing.
The nock locks solidly into the trigger box, providing an audible “click” for reassurance. The tight hold proved stealthy through range exercises and in the field while hunting.
Safe, Simple, and Refined
TenPoint continues to set the standard for safe cocking and de-cocking systems, and the ACUslide MAXX remains one of the most user-friendly designs available.
The crank system operates smoothly, quietly, and safely while providing complete control throughout both cocking and de-cocking procedures. Hunters can stop at any point during the cocking or de-cocking process without fear of losing control of the handle thanks to the Auto-Brake Gear System. The force required to operate the crank is minimal and can be done with a finger and thumb, making it suitable for individuals of different sizes and strengths.
The system’s simplicity and safety are quickly appreciated in real hunting situations. Once hunters experience a de-cocking system this refined, it is difficult to return to older designs that require firing an arrow at the end of every hunt. Hunting spring black bears, it was easy to cock or de-cock the bow to start or finish any hunt, taking only seconds.
Field-Ready Design
The TX Ultra 26.5 was clearly built around practical hunting applications. The compact dimensions make it exceptionally maneuverable while the balanced design helps reduce fatigue during long sits and when holding on target waiting for a shot opportunity.
The bow hanger works well in blinds and treestands, the quiver remains secure and organized, and the overall package carries comfortably throughout the day. Even with all the features, the TX Ultra feels compact and easy to manage. The reduced footprint was noticeable when the crossbow was thrown over the shoulder with a sling. The bow, held tight to the shoulder, making it easy to navigate the forest and to keep the hands free.
Every aspect of the platform reflects a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and what we can expect in hunting performance. You open the box to a ready-to-hunt package.

Precision Starts with Proper Optic Installation
When evaluating a crossbow’s accuracy, most hunters focus on the bow, arrows, and broadheads. What often gets overlooked is the optic mounting process. Even the most accurate crossbow can struggle to perform if the scope is not installed correctly.
One of the easiest ways to lose consistency is by improperly tightening scope mounting screws. Too much torque can damage the scope tube or place stress on internal components. Too little torque can allow the scope or rings to shift over time, creating frustrating changes in point-of-impact.
The Real Avid Smart-Torq Adjustable Limiter & XS Driver Kit helps eliminate those issues by allowing hunters to apply the exact torque specifications recommended by the optic and mount manufacturers. Properly tightened fasteners ensure everything stays secure while protecting the investment sitting on top of the crossbow.
Reticle alignment is equally important. The Real Avid Level-Right Pro makes it easy to align the scope reticle perfectly with the crossbow rail. A reticle that is even slightly off level may not show noticeable problems at short range, but as distances increase, those small errors can become larger misses.
This becomes especially important with today’s high-performance crossbows and advanced optics. Whether using a traditional scope, a speed-calibrated optic, or one of the new digital rangefinding systems, proper reticle alignment ensures aiming points remain true and ballistic calculations work as intended.
During testing, I often see hunters chasing accuracy problems that have nothing to do with the crossbow itself. A properly mounted optic, leveled with the Level-Right Pro and tightened to the correct specifications with the Smart-Torq system, removes unnecessary variables and allows the crossbow to perform at its full potential.
If you’re investing in a premium crossbow and quality optics, taking the time to install everything correctly is one of the simplest ways to improve accuracy, build confidence, and get the most from your equipment.
Another accuracy inducer for confident sight-in is a solid rest. For crossbows (and firearms), we’ve found nothing better than MTM Case-Gard’s High-Low Shooting Table. With its multi-adjustable metal legs and ergonomic bench top, the HLST provides maximum stability in any environment and is easily transported to the backyard range or hunting camp.
