Springfield Armory has introduced the Echelon Alpha 4.0C 9mm pistol, a compact, optics-ready model intended to give shooters a lower-cost entry into the company’s modular Echelon handgun system.
The pistol uses a 4″ barrel and a 15+1 capacity in its standard configuration, with the same Central Operating Group used across the Echelon line. That serialized stainless-steel chassis is the core of the platform, allowing the pistol to be reconfigured with compatible grip modules and slides.

With an MSRP of $599, the Echelon Alpha 4.0C 9mm pistol is positioned as a more accessible defensive handgun option for shooters who want the ability to adapt the gun over time rather than commit to a fixed-format platform.

The compact defensive pistol category has become increasingly focused on modularity, optics compatibility, and user-fit adjustments. The Echelon Alpha follows that direction by keeping the serialized chassis concept and direct-mount optic system while reducing the cost of entry.
The Variable Interface System is a notable carryover from the broader Echelon line. Rather than relying on adapter plates, Springfield Armory’s patent-pending system uses self-locking pins configured for the optic footprint, with the goal of keeping the optic mounted low on the slide for a more natural sight picture.
“At its launch in 2023, the Echelon immediately established itself as a top-tier, duty-grade 9mm,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “This new compact Alpha model expands accessibility to the modular Echelon ecosystem to an even broader range of users.”
