Wilson Combat has introduced the BULWARK 9mm pistol, a midsize service handgun built around an enclosed internal hammer-fired operating system. The design is intended to combine the ignition characteristics and trigger feel commonly associated with hammer-fired pistols with the smooth exterior profile expected of a modern concealed carry or duty gun.

The BULWARK uses a fully enclosed internal hammer rather than a striker-fired system or exposed hammer. According to Wilson Combat, that approach helps protect internal components from debris while maintaining a clean draw profile for carry and professional use.

The pistol also brings several familiar Wilson Combat cues to a compact-duty format, including a 1911-style sliding trigger, stainless-steel major components, a black nitride finish, and an optics-ready slide configuration.

Quick Specs:

  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15+1
  • Action: Enclosed internal hammer-fired system
  • Trigger: 1911-style sliding trigger
  • Trigger pull: 3.75 to 4.25 lbs.
  • Reset: Short, tactile reset
  • Slide: Stainless steel
  • Barrel: Hand-fitted match-grade barrel
  • Fire control module: Includes integrated frame rails
  • Finish: Black nitride
  • Safety systems: Four independent safety mechanisms
  • Safety features: Grip safety, firing pin block, trigger safety, and redundant mechanical protection
  • Optics system: Wilson Combat pin-based red-dot mounting system
  • Optics compatibility: Accepts most modern pistol optics without adapter plates, per Wilson Combat
  • Holster compatibility: Compatible with many Glock 19-pattern holsters
  • Endurance claim: Tested to 5,000 rounds without cleaning or lubrication and without a malfunction, according to Wilson Combat
  • Manufacturer: Wilson Combat, Berryville, Arkansas

The BULWARK lands in a crowded compact-duty pistol category, but its internal hammer-fired system gives it a point of separation from the many striker-fired options now dominating the market. For shooters who prefer the trigger movement and mechanical feel of a 1911-style system but need the capacity and carry profile of a modern 9mm, the BULWARK appears aimed squarely at that overlap.

The Glock 19-pattern holster compatibility is also notable. While “compatible with many” leaves some room for fit variation by holster maker, that design choice should make the pistol easier to integrate into existing carry setups than a wholly proprietary footprint.
