A new suppressor is all fun and games until you discover your old muzzle device doesn’t want to budge. Here are a few tips to removing a stubborn, stuck-on muzzle device or flash hider to make room for your new suppressor adapter.

We’re on a short countdown before everyone and their brother will be installing new suppressors onto their rifle barrels. Most will find the upgrade to be a stroll down easy street. For others, the journey to suppressed shooting will involve a bit of hard work.

You see, before you can install a suppressor onto your current barrel, you’ll need to remove the existing muzzle device or flash hider. Some of these devices will be extremely difficult to remove due to corrosion or the previous application of thread locking compound. Nevertheless, the device must be removed from the muzzle threads and the threads cleaned up before you can install your new suppressor.

We recently installed a Dead Air Sandman X suppressor onto a precision AR-15 hunting rifle and encountered a muzzle device that didn’t want to give up its grip on the barrel.
