Springfield Armory has introduced the SA-35 4″ 9mm pistol, a shortened variant of its modernized take on the classic P-35 design. The new model keeps the core formula of the original SA-35 intact while trimming barrel length for a more compact, quicker-handling package.

Built around a design that remains one of the most recognizable service pistols in firearms history, the Springfield Armory SA-35 4″ 9mm pistol blends traditional steel-and-wood styling with a series of contemporary updates. Springfield says the new version is intended to give shooters the same overall appeal as the full-size SA-35, but in a format that may better suit everyday carry or range use for those who prefer a slightly shorter pistol.

Like other pistols in the SA-35 line, this version uses forged steel components throughout the slide, frame, and barrel. Springfield also notes that the pistol retains the series’ improved feed ramp geometry, which is designed to better accommodate modern defensive ammunition.

The pistol’s other updates follow the same path as previous SA-35 models. Those include a recontoured hammer intended to reduce the chance of hammer bite, an extended thumb safety, modernized sights, and a flush-fit 15-round magazine that increases capacity over the original platform’s 13-round layout.

That combination gives the Springfield Armory SA-35 4″ 9mm pistol a place between nostalgia-driven design and current practical expectations. For shooters who appreciate classic all-steel handguns but want refinements tailored to modern use, the 4″ model appears aimed at broadening the SA-35 lineup without moving away from its original character.

Springfield is also leaning into the pistol’s visual appeal. The matte-blue carbon steel slide and frame are paired with checkered walnut grips, preserving the traditional look
