Brett G.’s recent ordeal underscores an uncommon example of gear resilience. After a gasoline explosion destroyed his truck and left him hospitalized for 65 days, investigators discovered that his handgun—carried in a FALCO A122 inside-the-waistband holster—had endured the fire with minimal damage.

According to Brett, both the Stoeger STR-9 and the attached Olight BALDR S light were salvageable. The holster’s coverage over the slide and weapon light appeared to shield the firearm from the worst of the heat and debris.

“I was very impressed when I heard that the pistol in the pickup that burnt up was salvageable,” Brett shared. “It shoots fine, the light was reusable — just needed the grip cleaned and a new mag.”
In response to the incident and Brett’s extended recovery, FALCO Holsters provided him a replacement holster at no cost. Marketing Manager Martin Lukáčko noted, “Our full-grain Italian leather combined with old-world craftsmanship has proven to be durable enough to protect the firearm even in hell-like conditions… Providing him with a new holster was the least we could do.”
The episode reinforces a point often discussed but rarely demonstrated this dramatically: concealed-carry gear must withstand more than routine wear. While few situations will approach the severity of a fuel-driven vehicle fire, real-world threats range from environmental exposure to accidental impacts, making sound construction and coverage relevant considerations.
FALCO has long emphasized traditional leatherwork and custom-fit designs. This case provides a noteworthy illustration of how comprehensive coverage—particularly over a slide and accessory light—can influence survivability in worst-case events.
Brett’s experience adds an unusual but telling data point for those evaluating concealed-carry holsters. The primary takeaway is simple: durability matters, and in this instance, the FALCO A122 IWB holster proved its worth.
