Smith & Wesson has added a compensated option to its micro-compact 9mm lineup with the Performance Center EQUALIZER Carry Comp. The new model builds on the EQUALIZER platform with a set of Performance Center upgrades aimed at faster control and easier handling for everyday carry.

The primary performance change is a barrel porting system, Smith & Wesson calls PowerPort, positioned at the 12 o’clock end of the barrel. The company says the upward gas diversion helps reduce felt recoil and keep the muzzle flatter for quicker follow-up shots. A single-action Performance Center trigger is also part of the package, described as delivering a “crisp, consistent break,” while the pistol retains the brand’s EZ technology intended to make slide manipulation easier.

Ported carry pistols have been gaining ground as manufacturers look for ways to improve shootability in smaller formats without moving shooters up into larger frames. In that context, the EQUALIZER Carry Comp targets a practical use case: a compact defensive pistol that prioritizes manageable recoil and straightforward operation, while still shipping with multiple magazine sizes to balance concealment and capacity.
The other additions, optics-ready slide, more assertive serrations, and a light/laser rail—track with what many shooters now expect from a modern defensive micro-compact. If the EQUALIZER’s “easy to run” concept initially drew buyers, this Performance Center version is positioned as a refinement for those who want the same operating approach, with greater emphasis on speed and control.
